New Whiteland officials are updating fines for multiple types of public nuisances, including street parking and high grass.

The New Whiteland Town Council unanimously approved three amended ordinances on May 7 that change the fine structure for those who violate the nuisance and weed and rank vegetation ordinances. The weed and rank vegetation ordinance applies to the uncontrolled growth of grass and weeds — usually, a fine would be given under it for high grass.

The amendments repeal and replace a portion of the vegetation and nuisance ordinances while also updating the town’s civil penalties ordinance.

If a person who violates the ordinances admits to the violation, they can be fined according to the amended Ordinance Violations Bureau ordinance for a lesser fine. However, if a violat
