The Cape May County Board of Commissioners could sound a lot friendlier to members of the public, Commissioner Will Morey suggested.

Before opening each meeting to public comment, Commission Director Len Desiderio or whoever is running the meeting reads a statement outlining rules for those addressing the board.

The reading of the statement began in February, after the board approved the wording by resolution. County officials say the policy was not in response to any specific speaker.

“There’s no specific incident that resulted in the board’s adoption of a public comment policy; however, the reason behind policy adoption was to add structure to the meeting, and ensure input from the public is respectful, orderly, and productive,” wrote Ronald C.
