Labor groups and a nonprofit organization focused on workers' compensation reform are urging Gov. Jared Polis to sign a bill allowing individuals injured at work to choose the doctor to treat them for their injuries without restrictions.

House Bill 1300 , sponsored by Rep. Jenny Willford, D-Northglenn, and Sen. Cathy Kipp, D-Fort Collins, also creates a mechanism for injured workers to select their physicians and requires employers or insurers to choose a physician when an employee is unable or unwilling to do so themselves.

The bill passed on a 39-25 vote in the House and a 22-13 vote in the Senate. Labor unions and their allies backed the measure, saying it can help speed up workers' recoveries and allow them to have more say in their health care decisions.
