NORFOLK, Va. — The Mexican Navy tall ship that crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge over the weekend has made previous stops in Norfolk.

Cuauhtémoc, a Mexican Navy tall ship, was in New York on an independent official goodwill visit as part of its sail training program for 2025. Afterward, it planned to go to Iceland.

But a stop in Manhattan led to a deadly collision with the Brooklyn Bridge , killing two crew members and injuring at least 19 people. The crash snapped three of the ships' masts, leaving some sailors dangling from harnesses high in the air while waiting for help.

The bridge was spared major damage, and the crash remains under investigation .
