A house was swept away by a major landslide Wednesday morning in Sainte-Monique, in Centre-du-Québec — across from Trois-Rivières. There were no injuries.

“The house was not occupied at the time of the landslide,” said Sylvain Gallant, Regional Director, Mauricie-Centre-du-Québec, Ministère de la Sécurité publique du Québec. “So, we don’t fear there will be any casualties at this time, which is good news.”

The man in the house that was swept away had gone out to warn his neighbours at the time of the landslide, he told Radio-Canada.

According to the municipality, the landslide, which occurred around 6 a.m., washed out Rang Haut-de-l’Île road.

Three other homes were evacuated as a precaution, said Gallant. “There’s no reintegration [into the homes] planned for today. That’s for sure.”
