CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - A juvenile was arrested on a gun charge after a traffic stop in Carbondale.

According to Carbondale police, the 15-year-old male was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

After talking with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, the juvenile was released to his parent pending a court appearance.

Police say they stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of East College Street around 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, for a traffic violation.

During the stop, officers saw the 15-year-old passenger try to hide a gun.

Officers recovered the gun and ammunition without incident.
