CALGARY — Canada’s new energy minister, Tim Hodgson, addressed oil and gas executives in Calgary, emphasizing the need for immediate progress in the energy sector. Speaking at a Calgary Chamber of Commerce event, Hodgson outlined Ottawa's vision to transform Canada into an energy superpower. He stated, "It’s time for a reset, and major projects need to get done in a more timely manner."

Hodgson announced that the federal government plans to establish a single body responsible for approving all major energy projects within the next two years. This move aims to streamline the approval process and facilitate quicker project completions. He stressed the importance of achieving "quick wins" for both Canada and the energy sector.

Later in the day, Hodgson was scheduled to meet with Alberta's energy minister, Brian Jean, and had already met with Saskatchewan's deputy premier on Thursday. These discussions are part of his efforts to engage with provincial leaders and industry stakeholders.

Some executives in the oil sector expressed cautious optimism regarding Hodgson's remarks. They noted that while his comments are encouraging, the real test will be whether these plans are effectively implemented. The energy sector has faced challenges in project approvals, and many are eager to see tangible results from the new minister's initiatives.
