NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- Tennessee Highway Patrol will be watching roads across the state over Memorial Day weekend as we kick off the summer travel season.
Troopers will be stationed on patrols, checkpoints and seat belt enforcements from Friday, May 23 through Monday, May 26.
According to the American Automobile Association, 45.1 million Americans are projected to travel at least 50 miles over traveling over the holiday period, which would break the previous record of 44 million people set back in 2005.
AAA predicts the number of travelers will increase by 1.4 million this year, with a total of 39.4 million people expected to travel by vehicle, 3.6 million by plane, and 2.1 million by alternative modes of transportation.
