STONE HARBOR — The borough's renovated 96th Street playground reopened Memorial Day weekend after being closed last year due to deteriorated equipment and related safety concerns, officials said last week.

A formal grand reopening ceremony is set for June 14.

The improvements were largely funded by a $1.2 million grant from Cape May County.

Playground improvements include new slides, benches and other equipment and surface modifications, the borough said Friday in a news release. Construction and installation work continues on adjacent bocce and basketball courts, which are expected to be ready by June 14.

A second phase of improvements is planned for later this year with construction of a new recreation office and public restrooms, the borough said.
