DALLAS — There are just seven days left in the 89th Texas Legislative Session, and while some significant bills are now law, several major priorities have not crossed the finish line yet.
This session will be marked by historic investments in education with two major bills.
Senate Bill 2, Governor Greg Abbott’s long-coveted school voucher program, is now law . It will send $1 billion to private and home schools administrators for 100,000 Texas children.
House Bill 2 is the $85 billion public school finance bill that would increase the basic allotment by $55 per student. It is still in the works.
The first bill signed into law this session, SB14, established the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office. It’s a state version of the federal Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE .
