BALTIMORE —
Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore announced a study on a vibrating capsule that could treat chronic constipation.
The trials to this new drug-free treatment option are pioneered by Dr. Bryan Curtin, a board-certified gastroenterologist and director of The Center for Neurogastroenterology and GI Motility at The Melissa L. Posner Institute for Digestive Health and Liver Disease at Mercy.
Once ingested, the capsule stimulates the colon through timed, mechanical vibrations that mimick naturally occurring bowl stimulation. Trial tests have been very effective so far.
Curtin said the treatment might not work for everyone but it's an additional option.
