Seventy-three people, including 21 juveniles, were arrested in Seaside Heights, New Jersey , over Memorial Day weekend.
Police shut down the boardwalk temporarily on Monday after three stabbings were reported. None of the stabbings were fatal. The boardwalk reopened later that day.
Detective Steve Korman, Seaside Heights police spokesman, said one of the arrested adults was charged with possessing a firearm. Korman said the boardwalk was shut down to take “a proactive approach to ensure public safety.”
Korman noted that more than 100,000 visitors were in the borough over the holiday weekend.
Sarah Frailey, a bartender at EJ's Tap House on the boardwalk, told the Asbury Park Press that "the last few days have been mayhem in this town."
"It's normally not like this,'' Frailey said.
