SPOKANE, Wash. — A 46-acre plot of land just north of the Spokane River is on the path to becoming Spokane Valley's very own cross-country course after Spokane Sports received state funding to develop the land.
The venue will be called "The Course" and is set to host everything from middle school to master's level races.
"[The Course] will bring grandma and grandpa, siblings to come watch you race," said Michael Basinger, Spokane Valley's community and economic development director. “I think it’s pretty amazing, the City of Spokane Valley will have something they can call their own.”
He says the city identified in 2016 that it needs to pick up the pace on attracting visitors.
"Tourism was one of the areas we weren’t performing very well in," said Basinger.
