SEATTLE — Seattle City Councilmember Bob Kettle has called the city’s issuing of a permit for Cal Anderson Park to a right-wing organization a “mistake” following altercations at the park that resulted in 23 arrests on Saturday .

Seattle’s Parks Department acknowledges the group "MayDay USA" was granted a permit to rally at the park after first being denied an application to gather in a small pedestrian space outside Pike Place Market.

MayDay USA advertises on its website anti-abortion and anti-transgender views. A second counter group also gathered at the park on Saturday, and for reasons that are unclear, it sparked confrontations with Seattle police and resulted in 23 arrests . No one, as of yet, has been charged with a crime.
