STRUTHERS — Ursuline would describe themselves as a “gritty” squad on the diamond. When it’s tournament time, sometimes the squad that faced the most adversity is the one that finds that key hit – or out.

It’s a cliche as old as time, but the Fighting Irish displayed some of their grittiness at Bob Cene Park on Tuesday evening, knocking off Villa Angela-St. Joseph by a final of 3-2. With the bases loaded, two outs, and a 3-2 count, senior Thomas Kosovan smacked a grounder back to the mound, slowly rolling long enough for fellow senior Anthony Triveri to glide into home base.

With the victory, Ursuline booked its trip to the Division IV, Northeast 3 district final on Thursday afternoon, where the Irish face Stow-Munroe Falls at Skeeles Field on the campus of the University of Akron.
