CAIRO, Ill. (KFVS) - The City of Cairo is warning residents about an uptick in vehicle break-ins.

In a Facebook post, city leaders said there has been a series of vehicles broken into within the city limits lately.

They said it started with unlocked vehicles, but criminals are now breaking out vehicle windows to steal items.

City leaders are asking property owners to turn up the sensitivities on their security cameras or doorbell cameras and to report anything suspicious to police.

Residents are urged not to approach anyone breaking into vehicles, but to call Cairo Police at 618-734-2131.
