Baylor defensive lineman Alex Foster was killed in a shooting in Greenville, Miss., early Wednesday morning, the Washington County Coroner’s Office told the Clarion Ledger.

He was 18.

After receiving a call of shots fired shortly after midnight, cops found Foster with multiple gunshot wounds inside a car and died at Delta Health Center 35 minutes later, Greenville Police told the Ledger.

“We are heartbroken by the unexpected passing of Alex Foster, a beloved teammate, friend, and a cherished part of the Baylor Family,” Baylor coach Dave Aranda and athletic director Mack Rhoades said in a joint statement Wednesday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Alex’s family and all those who loved him.
