Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department opens second station

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — This week, members of the community helped celebrate the opening of the second Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department station. Sontos Chavez is the chief of the Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

"It serves the eastern portion of our district so it's a big deal for us to open our second station," Chavez said.

The Dove Creek VFD covers just under 300 square miles of the southwestern part of Tom Green County. Chavez said with the opening of the second location the response time to the areas further east in the coverage area will be quicker.

"It helps our response times to the eastern portion of our coverage area something that used to take us 15-20 minutes to get over here...now we have a station in the area that we can respond directly out of
