MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEVV) — Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear joined Hopkins County leaders and other organizers to celebrate the launch of the West Kentucky Film Commission.

Officials say Kentucky is already drawing the film industry to the state through its incentive, which, according to Co-Commissioner Kristi Kilday, allows Hollywood producers to come to Kentucky, make a movie, and make between 30 and 35 cents for every dollar they spend.

Kilday says the commission has two primary purposes. One is to act as a marketing agency.

The commission’s other purpose is to develop Western Kentucky into a film production region. They will do things like identifying shoot locations and getting businesses on board with working alongside production crews.
