OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Oklahoma City Thunder are heading to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2012, and Mayor David Holt says it marks a new, monumental chapter for the city’s transformation into what he calls a “big league city.”

Mayor Holt may just be Oklahoma City’s biggest cheerleader.

“I mean, you can do a million things here in Oklahoma City,” Holt said. “We have one-of-a-kind museums. You can go whitewater rafting. Young professionals are flocking here. Our population is booming.” There’s one statistic he’s always quick to remind folks. “I love to say we’re the 20th largest city,” Holt said.

But he’s also realistic about the context behind that statistic. “We’re the 42nd largest market. And a lot of people’s perceptions about a place are created by your market size,” he
