NEWARK - Tonya Smith-Jackson, provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, will become the chancellor of Rutgers University–Newark, effective Aug. 1.
Smith-Jackson's appointment, announced jointly by Rutgers-Newark President Jonathan Holloway and President-designate William Tate IV, was approved unanimously on May 29 by the Rutgers Board of Governors.
“Dr. Smith-Jackson’s academic, research, corporate and government service appointments provide meaningful experiences to draw upon in her role as chancellor at Rutgers–Newark,” Tate said. “I look forward to partnering with her to expand opportunity pathways, advance impactful research and promote economic development for the region and the state.”
