DALLAS — Dallas Stars Head Coach Pete DeBoer pulled goaltender Jake Oettinger less than eight minutes into Game 5 of the Western Conference Final Thursday after going down 2-0. Saturday, Oettinger addressed DeBoer's decision.
The Stars lost the conference finals after going 4-1 in the series against the Edmonton Oilers. Their season ended Thursday after losing 6-3 against the Oilers. Just two and a half minutes in, Corey Perry scored the Oilers' first goal of the game on the power play -- and less than five minutes later, Mattias Janmark put them up 2-0 on the Stars.
This second goal from the Oilers prompted DeBoer to pull Oettinger from the game and replace him with Casey DeSmith, who let up another goal in his first minute of ice time.
