CULPEPER, Va. — Police in Virginia are crediting new technology for helping to reunite a missing man with his daughter.

Last week at around 8 p.m., an automated license plate reader notified Culpeper Police officers that a vehicle registered to a missing endangered adult had just entered the town. Two officers located the car at a gas station on Madison Road.

The officers confirmed the driver was an 88-year-old man with dementia reported missing from North Carolina.

Body cam and dash cam footage from the police department capture the conversation between the man and the officers.

One of the officers asks the man if he knows where he is.

"I'm about 35 miles from Statesville (North Carolina)," the man replies. The officers realized it wasn't safe to release the man from police custody.
