GLOUCESTER — The public is invited to get a close-up look at marine science at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science’s annual Marine Science Day on Saturday.

The free event, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will take place rain or shine at the Gloucester Point campus on 1375 Greate Road.

The event will offer a chance to connect with plants and animals while learning about the research and education that takes place at the institute. Along with hands-on exhibits featuring Chesapeake Bay wildlife, the event will include tours of the campus, a career fair showcasing marine and environmental science jobs and a costume contest. All ages are encouraged to show off their best marine plant and animals costumes for a chance to win prizes.
