GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is warning about a fire risk in the UP and northern lower Michigan following a string of dry days.

“There hasn’t been significant rain in parts of the Upper Peninsula for more than two weeks,” Paul Rogers, fire prevention specialist with the DNR, said in a release. “Burn permits will be limited, and we are asking everyone to be very careful with their campfires this weekend and into Monday.”

Anyone who plans on burning yard debris, specifically those in areas affected by the March ice storm, is asked to check online for a burn permit.
