WASHINGTON (NewsNation) — President Donald Trump and advisor Elon Musk will hold an Oval Office press conference Friday, just two days after the tech billionaire announced his time in government is coming to an end.

Trump’s self-proclaimed “first buddy” is stepping down from his role as a special government employee after leading an effort to slash spending and shutter federal agencies. Musk was restricted to serving 130 days in a 365-day period because of his special employment status. The deadline is set to be met on Friday, May 30.

Musk began the process of offboarding Wednesday evening, “essentially just the necessary paperwork one does when leaving a job,” another White House official noted.
