Dr. Vincent Russo’s work addresses social media and isolation

When Dr. Vincent Russo obtained his Master in Fine Arts degree in sculpture five years ago, he wanted to explore the role of social media on mental health and relationships in the younger generation.

Given the strong prevalence of social media usage in young people, Russo created two sculptures; “Ghosting” and “Isolation.”

“Ghosting” is a piece depicting two young women who are close enough to be speaking to each other but are instead absorbed in their digital universe.

The choice of medium, clothing and gender was conscious, says Russo. He read that the prevalence of social media has contributed to the uptick in teen suicides, particularly in young women.
