A MOTHER is warning others after a bacterial infection killed her son in a matter of hours.

Liam Dahlberg from Indiana told his mother he had a headache after coming home from school last month, but by the next day, the eight-year-old was dead.

The boy was diagnosed with haemophilus influenzae, also known as H. flu or HIB.

"This is not your typical, everyday flu," Liam's mother, Ashlee Dahlberg, told CBS affiliate WMAZ-TV .

Unlike a regular flu, haemophilus influenzae is a rare bacterium, not a virus, and the infections are much more deadly.

H. flu can live in the nose or throat without causing much harm but if a person has a weakened immune system or is dealing with a viral infection, like a cold, it can enter the bloodstream and make the body attack its organs.
