Neighbors have identified a 73-year-old woman found dead inside her Metairie home after a two-alarm fire Friday morning .
Frenchie Carter was a retired social worker who grew up in the Sibley Street residence that was destroyed in the blaze, according to longtime friend Priscilla Isaac Freeman, 78.
"She was a friendly person," said Freeman, who used to babysit Carter when they were younger.
The case of the fire is still under investigation, according to Matthew Bondi, spokesperson for the Third District Volunteer Fire Department, which extinguished the blaze.
The fire was reported about 8:40 a.m. at Carter's single-story home in the 800 block of South Sibley Street.
