ANNAPOLIS, Md. — As Marylanders brace for a sharp increase in electricity bills beginning June 1 , the state’s Public Service Commission (PSC) issued a pair of last-minute orders aimed at easing the financial strain—particularly for customers of Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) and Delmarva Power.

The PSC announced Friday it had issued two “Letter Orders” to blunt the effects of recent capacity price hikes stemming from a regional electricity auction that saw wholesale costs for utilities jump more than 800%.

Starting June 1, customers across the region will see monthly electric bills rise by $14 to $18 on average , depending on location.
