MONTROSE, MI -- The Montrose City Council plans to conduct a search for a new city manager and has agreed to hire a Flushing City Council member to serve in the position in the interim.
Council members voted unanimously on the appointment of Joe Karlichek on Tuesday, May 27, setting his salary for 90 days at roughly $6,166 monthly.
The pay rate matches that of Barbara Valentine, who the council fired May 20, after she worked less than five months in the position.
Karlichek is a former mayor of Flushing.
He lost in the Democratic primary election for a Genesee County Board of Commissioners seat in 2024 but came back to win a Flushing council seat later that same year.
City Council members also interviewed Dan Hill, a Montrose Community Schools Board of Education member, for the pos
