RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has been contacted several times Friday, May 30, about an email scam involving the DMV, according to Sgt. Chris Brown.

The scam emails said they are being sent by the DMV on behalf of the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The emails said the Nevada Highway Patrol has given them a ticket, and “they must pay.”

The emails threaten that failure to comply will result in additional fines and license suspensions, according to a NHP news release.

“The Nevada Highway Patrol would like to remind you that we will not call, text, or email requesting or threatening that you must pay a fine,” Brown said. “The Nevada Highway Patrol will also not request that you provide your personal information over the phone, text or internet.”
