HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Following the death of a victim, the Hattiesburg Police Department is now looking for Michael Shanks, 61, who is wanted for First Degree Murder in connection to a shooting that occurred Friday.

At approximately 1:55 p.m., HPD said officers responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of East Ninth and Dewey streets.

Upon arrival, investigators determined that two males who are family members were involved in an altercation that escalated into gunfire.

One individual sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, where he later died from his injuries.

HPD called the shooting “an isolated incident,” and there is no immediate threat to the public.
