GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro, NC--The Rockingham County Cougars walked off on the Scotland Fighting Scots 1-0 in Game 2 of the NCHSAA 3A Softball Championship Series on Saturday at the UNCG Softball Stadium to win the program’s first championship.

The game was tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning and Lily Strittmatter hit a one-out double to get into scoring position. In the next at-bat, Kennidy Kirby singled to centerfield to score the game-winning run.

Strittmatter was named the Most Valuable Player of the Championship.

Zoey Snead and Macey Hardy each had a pair of hits for the Cougars.

Ava Grace Pruitt threw a complete-game shutout for the Cougars and allowed just four hits while striking out 10 batters. A Stutts also pitched well for the Scots as she went 6.1 innin
