CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The Metro Youth Football Association in Cedar Rapids hosted its first girls flag football tournament.
One board member, Keith Burrell said creating the event was a no-brainer.
“The demand was real and the demand was high. We have over 200 girls playing today. They’re playing against each other and the games are fun and fast. The girls are enjoying it,” said Burrell.
Sunday was a positive sign in looking to create a fall league for younger age groups.
“A day like this is really a launching point. We see that girls want to play flag football. If they want to play flag football, then it’s our job to give them a space to go do it,” said Burrell.
Many of the athletes are used to just practicing and scrimmaging against their own teams. This event was the first ti
