MOORHEAD — Jill Kandel thought it was just another trip to Costco.
The Moorhead author loves checking out the different varieties of coffee there, so made her usual trek to the coffee section at the wholesale club in Fargo a few weeks ago.
Her interest was piqued by the word “Sumatra” on one of the labels. After all, she and husband, Hans, had lived on the Indonesian island of Sumatra when Hans worked as an extension agronomist there over 35 years ago.
The label also pinpointed the location where those beans were grown: the Central Aceh province.
Hmmm. That happened to be the exact province where they lived in northern Sumatra.
Most interesting of all, the label listed the precise variety of Sumatra bean: Catimor.
