LAPORTE — A 21-year-old remained behind bars early Monday after allegedly battering a younger female and crashing their vehicle early Saturday, according to LaPorte County police.
Police said they responded around 12:30 a.m. Saturday to the 4600 west block of U.S. 20 and located a vehicle crashed in a ditch.
The teen told officers she was driving eastbound on U.S. 20 when an argument broke out with the 21-year-old man, who was a passenger in the vehicle.
She said the man battered her and grabbed the steering wheel of the vehicle, causing it to travel off the side of the highway, police said. The female reported she regained control, stopped the vehicle and exited, at which time the man replaced her as driver and crashed into a ditch.
The accused then fled the scene on foot
