In a championship game, every mistake is magnified. The Cathedral City softball team learned that the hard way on Saturday.

The Lions were in Irvine for the Division 8 CIF-SS championship against Hueneme of Oxnard, and one miscue-filled play in the first inning was the difference as the Lions lost a heartbreaker 1-0.

Despite the loss, the Lions players and coaches were holding their heads high and proudly received the second-place plaque after a historic season, but that didn't mean the tears weren't flowing. As the coaches talked to the team in a post-game circle behind the outfield fence, you could hear plenty of audible sniffles during the silent moments.

Senior Amya Guzman encapsulated the emotional swings.
