ORANGE — A Newark man was convicted of first-degree murder last week for the 2020 fatal shooting of a 25-year-old man on Main Street in Orange, Essex County officials announced.

Marcus Wright, 34, was found guilty by an Essex County jury on Tuesday, May 28, following a three-week trial before Superior Court Judge Michael L. Ravin. The jury also returned guilty verdicts on associated weapons charges.

Prosecutors said Wright shot and killed Wisguen Marc during a confrontation on Nov. 20, 2020, near 193 Main Street in Orange. Surveillance footage captured the incident, showing Wright brandishing a handgun after a brief altercation and fatally shooting Marc once in the back.

Wright is scheduled to be sentenced on August 25, 2025. He remains in custody pending sentencing.
