After serving more than ten years in the Texas House of Representatives, Republican Rep. Tony Tinderholt has announced he will not seek re-election, marking the end of a combative and often controversial tenure in state politics. First elected in 2014 to represent House District 94, which includes parts of Arlington and Tarrant County.

Tinderholt did not share any details about his future plans, but his departure will create an open seat in a reliably Republican district. Given the district’s strong conservative lean, the vacancy is likely to draw interest from multiple Republican candidates.
