PORTLAND, Maine — A man wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service was arrested Thursday evening after fleeing from officers during a drug investigation in Portland’s downtown area.
The Portland Police Department said its Crime Reduction Unit was patrolling near Portland Street and Forest Avenue at around 7 p.m. on May 29 when they observed a man pull what appeared to be a baggie of drugs from his pants. Officers approached the individual, who then attempted to flee on foot, according to the department's press release .
A brief chase ensued, ending with the suspect in custody just after he discarded the plastic baggie. Two officers sustained minor injuries during the pursuit and arrest. One officer was treated at Mercy Hospital and has since returned to duty, according to police.
