JACKSON COUNTY — Several felony charges have been filed against a Kansas City man who remains at large for allegedly shooting a Lee's Summit police officer.
Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson says in a news release Thomas E. Tolbert is charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest and second-degree domestic assault.
Court documents say Lee's Summit police were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 3500 block of Southwest Hollywood Drive for a domestic assault allegedly involving Tolbert. Tolbert broke away from officers attempting to detain him and fled on foot. As an officer ran after him Tolbert allegedly fired multiple gunshots and struck the officer four times.
