BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. — CAL FIRE Butte County Fire officials arrested a woman Saturday who law enforcement officers believe is in connection with starting a vegetation fire in the 900th block of 14th Street in Thermalito.

CAL FIRE Butte crews were dispatched to the vegetation fire around 4 p.m. Saturday. CAL FIRE Butte officials say officers received a report that the suspect, Mariah Gabrielle Rodriguez, was initially not located after investigators say the cause of the fire was arson. Rodriguez was reported in the area of the vegetation fire around 6 p.m. Officers found her with a lighter.

Witnesses identified Rodriguez, leading to her arrest by CAL FIRE. She faces charges of arson to forest land and possession of drug paraphernalia.
