BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Bend Police confirmed Monday that a 42-year-old Bend man remains in critical condition at St. Charles Bend, a day after being rescued from the Deschutes River near Pioneer Park.

Police responded to the area just north of the Portland Avenue bridge on Sunday afternoon after receiving a report of the incident. Officers found the man unconscious and face-down in the water around 2 p.m. Once he was pulled from the river, responders were able to perform CPR and rush him to the hospital.

A family member told KTVZ News on Monday the man is an avid fisherman who was in the area to "cast a few lines." Apparently, something went wrong during the outing. They don't know if it was a medical emergency or something else happened.
