GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — UPDATE: Guilford County Animal Services announced it has paused cat adoptions until June 9.

Guilford County Animal Services is limiting how many cats and kittens it takes in after several cases of a serious virus were found at the county’s animal shelter .

Four kittens brought into the animal shelter from the High Point and Pleasant Garden areas were diagnosed with feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), a highly contagious viral infectious disease in cats. In response, the shelter has shut down two kitten areas and put all cats and kittens under a two-week quarantine.

To help control the outbreak, the shelter is asking the public to take part in its “stray to foster” program. People who find stray cats or kittens can care for them at home during the 72-hour stray
