ATASCOSA, Texas — Humble Independent School District is now on the state's biggest stage. Atascocita High School's baseball program, historically strong, has the chance to win its first state championship.

The team, composed of young men who enjoy being together, is defined by the word "gritty," which appears on the back of a hat. This spirit drives them to do whatever it takes.

The Eagles are playing in their first state championship game in program history. The experience is overwhelming and uncharted for the team.

Head Coach Jeremy O'Neill and Assistant Coach Thomas Melvin have been with the program for 15 years. O'Neill said this group shares many qualities with the Eagles team that reached the state semifinals in 2014.
