NORTH VERNON, Ind. – A Clark County woman was taken into custody last week in downtown North Vernon after she allegedly was found inside a car not belonging to her.

On May 30, the North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) responded to a report of a person unlawfully inside a vehicle at the Hoosier Street apartment complex. Officers found a female, later identified as 34-year-old Jessica Lewis of Jeffersonville.

She could not prove that she had permission to be in the car, and her explanation could not be verified. The vehicle’s owner was confirmed to be someone else.

While speaking with the suspect, NVPD observed behavior consistent with drug impairment. A consent search of her belongings was conducted, leading to the discovery of items consistent with the use and distribution of narcotic
