Hundreds of people took to social media last week to pay homage to David Houseknecht, 69, a longtime bartender at the Irish Pub in Atlantic City who died on Memorial Day after a battle with cancer.
Pub owners Kathy and Richard Burke posted on Facebook the news of his death and wrote of the deep bond they shared with him.
“There are so many special memories of Dave, and I picture him in every one of them laughing as he delivers one of his brilliantly funny one liners behind the bar. From the first time a customer would walk into the Irish Pub he welcomed them like a long lost friend … and in many cases they became a friend for life,” they wrote.
