Texas House, Senate gavel out

Both the House and Senate formally adjourned Monday for the last time this legislative session, marking the end of more than five months of arduous work.

“We started this session as a House in a bit of uncertainty, and I believe that we ended in a much more unified and solid place,” Speaker Dustin Burrows, R-Lubbock, said on the House floor Monday. “I am proud of the work that we did this session.”

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who presides over the Senate, described the 89th Legislature as “the finest session any Texas Senate has ever had.”

Both chambers adjourned around 4 p.m., mark
