Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) announced on Tuesday that the special election to replace the late Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) in the state’s 11th Congressional District will be held on Sept. 9. The news comes weeks after Connolly died last month after a short battle with cancer. He had represented the district since 2009. Prior to his death, Connolly announced in April he would not seek reelection in 2026 and endorsed his former chief of staff and Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw for the seat in May.
